Team Party / Potluck / Fun Day

That was fun ! Hope that everyone had a great time. We need to do events like that more often … and we will ! Much thanks to Coach Curtis and the very helpful parents for all of their effort and enthusiasm.

Mini Meet / September 13

  • We will hold our first Mini Meet of the season this Saturday at Marcus Pool. We want ALL swimmers, from ALL groups to participate !!!
  • Swimmers will sign-in at the Clerk of Course beginning at 12 Noon … we will finish before 4 PM.
  • No need to sign up before Saturday. You will be entered when you sign in at the pool.
  • Unlike past Mini Meets, this competition will be sanctioned by Arizona Swimming and the time posted will be available for entry into future meets.
  • Because this meet will be sanctioned, there will be a $5 fee per swimmer. This is a fee charged by Arizona Swimming for all swimmers entered into a sanctioned competition. Compared to the $500 that you would pay for an out-of-town meet, it’s a pretty good deal.

Meet Officials

The reason that the Mini Meet can be a Sanctioned competition is that several of our parents have worked VERY hard to become certified USA Officials. Thanks and congratulations to all that have made the jump from spectator to official !

To help you understand just how significant it is to have meets in Yuma … If we send just 20 swimmers to Phoenix for a meet, the club will spend about $400 to send a coach and those 20 families will spend over $10,000 in gas, food, lodging, and entry fees. Having sanctioned competitions in Yuma is HUGE !

What’s more, our new Referee’s have the authority to train new officials !!! We would like to increase the number of Stroke & Turn officials and add a few computer/timing system operators. If you are interested, please contact Coach Andersen (580-7404) or Ron Corbin (539-7218). You can begin training this Saturday !!!!

Another big thanks to those that are officiating the high school meets. The timing system that we use at Marcus is owned by the schools. We get to use it in exchange for officiating the home high school meets. What these folk do, gives us access to a $25,000 timing system ! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Practice Changes/Variations

  • There will be NO PRACTICE Saturday, September 27
  • There WILL be normal Senior Practice Saturday, September 13
  • The full 2008-2009 Events & Meets Schedule is posted on the NEWS!! and Swimmer’s Page of our website.
  • On October 6 we will move to Carver Pool (5th Street & 13th Avenue) and will practice there until we are able to move to Marcus (December 1 or earlier IF the work on Marcus is completed early). Carver is small, but heated ! The smallness will require a strange practice schedule. That schedule is listed below.

Swim Suits / Apparel

The price of our swim suits will be going up very soon. Because cheaper suits can be purchased, we recommend that you save your team suit for meets and wear one a less expensive practice suit (sold pool-side by Troy almost every day) at practice.

It is still very hot, but if we want to have new parkas arrive before the cold sets in, we will need to order before the end of September. Not sure what a parka is … last year’s Parka Sale Flyer (with pictures) is still posted on our website’s Equipment & Apparel page. Check it out. The 2008 Order Form will be distributed very soon.
