Many of our families might not know that the Heat has a Board of Directors ! Well we do, and they meet each month to handle the business end of the team. In an effort to keep everyone up to speed on what the Board is up to, a summary of the Board business will be included in the News Splash.

Your Board: Andy Gould (President), Ron Corbin (VP), Troy Maryniak (Development Director), Alison Keough (Registrar), Nancy Jones (Communications/Registrations), Virginia Cardinal (Apparel), Brad Edmondson, Vicky Tmm, and Allan Andersen (Secretary). Katie Edmondson is your Treasurer (while not a member of the Board, she is very important to the organization !).

September 4th

  • Jenny Hieber and Sheridan Osborn were approved as new member, replacing Rick Frabasilio and John Paul Plante.
  • The Fall Fund Raiser will be a Flea Market. Details will be released very soon. Alison Keough will heading up this event.
  • The Heat will host a Golf Tournament this year (most likely in April). Troy Maryniak is organizing a committee to run the tournament.
  • A Facility Development Committee will be formed to a) improve usage of existing facilities, b) develop plans to renovate existing facilities, and c) develop plans to build new facilities in Yuma.
  • The Heat has participated in the Veteran’s Day Parade and the November Craft Fair. We are looking for someone to organize these activities.

From USA Swimming

Why Should My Child Be a Swimmer?

1.       Swimming is an outstanding activity for young people.

2.     Swimming promotes fitness and teaches a child to strive for physical achievement. Many super-stars in other sports started out as swimmers and gained strength and coordination that helped them to excel.

3.     Swimming is an exciting individual and team sport.

4.     Swimming is a technical and specialized activity involving extensive skill development.

5.     Swimming is a healthy "lifetime" activity. Participants may be 1 or 101 years old.

6.      Swimming is relatively injury free in comparison to other youth sports.

7.     Swimming teaches the life lessons of sport and sportsmanship which include learning to deal with winning and losing, as well as working with officials, teammates and coaches.

8.     Swimming motivates participants to strive for self improvement and teaches goal orientation.

9.     Swimming cultivates a positive mental attitude and high self-esteem.

10.  Swimming can prevent drowning.

Did you know?

Drowning is a leading killer of American children.

In ethnic communities, drowning rates are nearly three times the national average.

More than 30% of kids are at risk for obesity-related illnesses.

Swimming is a cure.
