2008 Sandsharks

In addition to our year-round USA Swimming program, the Heat sponsors a summer only recreational swim team, the Sandsharks. The Sandsharks participate in the Imperial Valley Swim League (IVSL), an organization of summer clubs in Yuma, Brawley, Holtville, El Centro, and Imperial. The Sandsharks are the reigning IVSL Champions !

In 2008 the Sandshark program will run from June 9th through July 31 and will include dual and invitational competitions.

The Sandsharks are a GREAT way to become involved in competitive swimming in Yuma. The swimmers will learn all the competitive strokes, stay in shape, and make new friends! What a great way to spend a summer!

Costs

The program fee is $125 per swimmer ($300 maximum per family) and includes IVSL membership/insurance and a Sandshark Team T-shirt. Team suits, cap, and goggles will be available through the team at a discounted price. Weekend invitationals and the IVSL Championship meet, which are optional, require an entry fee (generally $15 to $20).

Registration

Registration will begin May 9th and will continue until all slots are filled. Print a copy of the Registration Form and take the completed form, with your payment, to the City of Yuma's Park & Recreation office (One City Plaza). Registration at City Hall will end Thursday, June 5. After June 5 you may register on deck (at Marcus Pool) between 4 and 6 PM.

Practice Groups

Children 4 to 18 years of age, that can swim 25 yards, may participate. Practices will be scheduled between 4 and 6 PM at Marcus Pool (5th Street & 6th Avenue). Swimmers will be assigned to a 1 hour and 15 minute practice, a 1 hour practice, or a 45 minute practice based upon their age and ability.

Initial practice groupings will be determined Monday, June 9. If you miss practice on the 9th, please arrive by 3:45 PM and you will be assigned to the proper practice group.
