The Yuma Heat training
groups are (from beginner to advanced):
Red
10 and Unders in the Heat program will swim on the Red Team.
There are three Red practice groups. Placement will be based on skill and experience.
Red swimmers will be
taught the basics in freestyle,
backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Racing starts and turns will
be introduced here. The goal of this group is to establish a solid foundation
in stroke technique and to have fun doing it! Children entering this group
must be five years old and be able to swim 25 yards freestyle and 25 yards
backstroke. Completion of Learn to Swim Level V is recommended.
Orange
The Orange Team consists of swimmers 11 to 14 years of age.
There are three Orange practice groups. As with the Reds, placement will
be based on an individual's skill and experience.
Orange swimmers will build on previously learned fundamentals and will be
introduced to race strategy, training technique, and dryland training.
Swimmers in this group will compete in all strokes and distances.
Senior
The Senior Team has two levels. Senior 1 consists of high school aged swimmers
that want to stay in shape through the winter and summer months while Senior 2 swimmers
have made a commitment to the sport. That committment is demonstrated by their attitude, attendance,
and focus on long range goals. They love the process
and they love to compete. Intrinsic rewards replace tangible awards as
a motivating factor. Senior 2 swimmers realize that the development of physical, psychological,
and emotional strength are key to success in swimming ... and in life.
Master
Our Masters Team offers organized practice and/or fitness training
for adults 19 and older. There will be competitions available through
United States Masters Swimming (USMS). Morning and evening hours are available.
Learn to Swim
American Red Cross Learn to Swim classes are available in the fall and spring.
